Cameras-In-Court Meeting June 13
The first meeting of a committee studying the use of media cameras in trial courts will be held June 13 in Pierre.
Retired Chief Justice Robert Miller of Pierre chairs the committee, which was created by Chief Justice David Gilbertson after the 2008 Legislature repealed a ban on cameras in court.
Cameras are already allowed in the Supreme Court. The new committee will study whether that coverage should be expanded to trial courts, and if so, what kind of rules should govern the coverage.
Here are the people on the committee:
Retired Chief Justice Robert Miller, Judge Jack Von Wald of Aberdeen, Judge David Gienapp of Brookings, Judge Glen Severson of Sioux Falls, Attorney General Larry Long, Bob Wilcox of Pierre, Tena Haraldson of Sioux Falls, Mark Roby of Watertown, John Petersen of Rapid City, Richard Travis of Sioux Falls, Roxanne Giedd of Pierre, David Nelson of Sioux Falls, Tim Rensch of Rapid City, Jeff Larson of Sioux Falls, Don Holloway of Rapid City, David Hunhoff of Yankton, Cheryl Hanna of Rapid City, Denise Richards of Pierre, Chris Hutton of Vermillion, Mark Millage of Sioux Falls, Karl Thoennes of Sioux Falls, and Judith Roberts of Pierre.
